If you’re looking to buy a new dehumidifier and you specifically need one with a humidistat control, you’ve come to the right place! Whilst many dehumidifiers do have a humidistat, it isn’t always made clear that this is the case. Before we look at our recommendations, I first want to talk about why it is a good idea to purchase a hyrgrometer too if you want to maintain a specific humidity level.

Consider Purchasing a Hygrometer Too

If you want a dehumidifier that can maintain a constant humidity level, choosing a model with a built in humidistat is certainly a good idea. However, since the humidistat is located on the dehumidifier, it won’t give an accurate reading across the whole room.

A hygrometer is like a humidistat but it only measures humidity levels. Placing a hygrometer on the other side of the room to the dehumidifier will give you a better idea of what the rooms humidity level really is. The SensorPush (link to Amazon) is a great option to check out as it connects with your phone for wireless reading and can also provide you with alerts.

When you’re looking for a dehumidifier, it isn’t always made clear whether or not they have a humidistat. The dehumidifiers in the list below can all be set to maintain a specific humidity level.

  • Suitable for large rooms
  • Effective at removing moisture
  • Relatively quiet
  • Pump feature
  • Problems with pump malfunction

The main thing you need to consider when purchasing a dehumidifier is the size of the room it will be used in. For large rooms, we recommend the Frigidaire FFAP7033T1. It’s powerful enough for rooms of up to 1,400 square feet and can extract 70 pints of water each day.

One of the best features this specific model offers are the draining options with the pump. You can drain the water out of a window or into a sink making it much more hands-off. Like most dehumidifiers, the tank is quite small at only 13.1 pints. When you think it can extract 70 pints of water per day, this means a lot of emptying the tank so a pump really comes in handy. It can be a bit tricky to set the pump up (we recommend checking out some videos on YouTube), but once it is setup, it’s fairly easy to use.

The general consensus among the Amazon reviews is that this dehumidifier is relatively quiet but not completely silent.

The biggest complaint among Amazon reviews is that the pump stops working after a couple of months. Unfortunately this is a problem that isn’t unique to this brand or model. If you really need a pump, there isn’t a perfect solution and you may just have to take the risk. However, if you don’t need the pump feature, you can save yourself some money with the slightly cheaper Frigidaire FFAD7033R1. With this model you will either need to empty the tank or it can be used continuously next to a suitable drain.

With both of these dehumidifiers, the humidistat can be set in increments of 5%.

What If I Need a Dehumidifier for a Smaller Room?

If you need a dehumidifier for a smaller room, Frigidaire also offer the model without the pump in two smaller sizes. There is a 50 pint model for medium sized rooms and a 30 pint model for small rooms.
