Dry air can be a big problem for people who suffer from nosebleeds. A great solution for this is to purchase a humidifier. When you’re purchasing a humidifier to help with nosebleeds you should look for a cool mist model as cool mist is easier on your nose than warm mist.
Our pick for the best humidifier for nose bleeds is the Honeywell HCM-350 which is a cool mist humidifier with a filter to keep the mist clean and pure. In this guide I will cover why we picked this humidifier as the best choice for nosebleeds, the drawbacks of the HCM-350, and I have also included a few tips to help you get the most out of the humidifier.
The video below takes a closer look at the Honeywell HCM-350 and offers some great tips to get the most out of the humidifier.
Why We Chose the Honeywell HCM-350
First, I will run you through the reasons we picked the HCM-350 as the best humidifier for nosebleeds.
There are two main types of humidifier, cool mist and warm mist. As the names suggest, this refers to the temperature of the mist dispersed. Whilst both types can be beneficial for nosebleeds, a cool mist humidifier is the better option because the cooler temperature of mist is easier to inhale. There is also the added bonus of cool mist humidifiers being safer to use around children because they lack the heating element of a warm mist humidifier.
Easy to fill and clean
Whilst the HCM-350 isn’t quite as easy to fill as the Honeywell HCM-710 which is the model we recommend for seniors, it is still easier to fill than most. The water tank has a handle which makes carrying it to and from the sink no problem at all, and the opening is nice and wide so filling it up is a breeze. Other than models which use a top fill design, the HCM-350 is about as easy to fill as it gets.
The wide tank opening also makes it easy to clean. The units itself is relatively large which helps when it comes to cleaning it too. Many of the reviews on Amazon are very complimentary of how easy this model is clean compared to other humidifiers.
Uses a filter
Although filter-less humidifiers have their own advantages (no replacement filters to worry about and generally quieter), I would still recommend a filtered humidifier. When you use a filter-less humidifier, everything that is in the water is dispersed into the air. This includes minerals from the water which can be bad for your lungs and produce white dust. If you live in a hard water area this can be particularly problematic. A filtered humidifier like the Honeywell HCM-350 removes minerals and impurities from the water so you know you are inhaling clean and pure water.
Another advantage to evaporative filter humidifiers is that due to the way they operate, they cannot over-humidifier the room. Dry air isn’t good for your health or your room, however, too much humidification is not good either.
Drawbacks to the Honeywell HCM-350
Overall, we believe the positives of the HCM-350 outweighs the negatives. However, there are a few issues with this humidifier that you should consider.
Noisier than other humidifiers
One of the main drawbacks of any filtered humidifier is that they are noisier than filter-less models and that’s no different here. The lowest settings is reasonable quiet but the high setting can make a quite annoying white noise. If you don’t plan on using it in your bedroom it won’t be too bad, but if you do want to use it in your bedroom, you will probably only be able to tolerate the lowest setting.
Filters need replacing regularly
Another disadvantage to the HCM-350 is that like with any filtered humidifier, the filters will need replacing regularly. Around once per month but possible more frequently if you are using hard water. A neat little tip is to flip the filter every few days to make sure the whole surface area is getting used. Replacing the filters frequently is very important to prevent mould from forming and to keep the mist clean and fresh.
- Cool mist (recommended for nosebleeds)
- Easy to fill and clean
- Filters keep the mist pure
- Filters need replacing regularly
Tips for the Honeywell HCM-350
- Purchase these replacement filters – You can find many different replacement filters for this humidifier, however, many of them don’t hold up very well. The filters I have linked to are the most effective ones I could find.
- Flip the filter for longer use – It’s a good idea to flip the filter every few days. This will keep it moist, preventing it from drying out, and it will also extend the lifespan of the filter by making sure the whole of the filter is used.
- Use distilled water if you live in a hard water area – If you live in a hard water area and use tap water, the filters will need replacing more frequently. If you invest in a distiller, you will pay more up front but will save in the long run because you won’t get through as many filters.
When you’re purchasing a humidifier to help relieve nose bleeds, it’s a good idea to choose a cold mist model. Cold mist is easier to inhale than warm mist and your nose will thank you for it. Overall, we recommend the Honeywell HCM-350. Although it is quite noisy and will need regular filter replacements, the fact that is has a filter means you can’t over-humidify your room and the mist will be clean of minerals and impurities, and you won’t have to suffer with white dust.
