The Best Outdoor Floor Fans

August 1, 2019 by Joe Leave a Comment

On the lookout for a new outdoor floor fan? You’ve come to the right place! Most floor fans are not designed to be used outdoors so it can be difficult to find one that’s suitable. There are a few great options to choose from though. Before we take a look at our recommended floor fans, we will first look at whether an outdoor floor fan is the right choice for you or if an alternative would be a better option.

Is an Outdoor Floor Fan the Right Choice?

Before you settle on purchasing an outdoor floor fan, I want to run you through a few things to consider to ensure you make the best decision.

The first thing you need to know is that outdoor floor fans are not designed to withstand harsh weather. You will need to bring it inside when it rains (although this isn’t too big of a deal due to how portable they are). If you want an outdoor fan that is wet-rated and can withstand harsh weather, check out our guides to outdoor ceiling fans and outdoor wall-mounted fans.

Now I’ll quickly run you through the pros and cons of outdoor floor fans.

  • Advantages: The main advantage of outdoor floor fans is that they are extremely portable which makes them a great choice if you’re going to want a cool breeze in different areas. They are also the perfect option for cooling pool decks or to take camping.
  • Disadvantages: Floor fans won’t cover as large an area as a ceiling fan. Choosing one with an oscillation feature will certainly help, but the breeze will still only reach whatever it is directly aimed at. As I mentioned earlier, the other disadvantage is that they are not designed for harsh weather and are not waterproof.

Maxx Air Industrial Grade Air Circulator

Great for When you’re Working Outdoors

  • Very powerful
  • Built to last
  • Only two settings
  • High speed is quite loud
  • Fan shakes on the high setting

The Maxx Air is the perfect outdoor fan if you’re looking for something that packs a lot of power. It isn’t as portable as the next fan on our list (which is battery powered), however, it’s built to last an is ideal for keeping you cool whilst working outdoors.

Unfortunately, there are only two speed settings so you will have to make do with either high or low. The high speed setting is a little on the loud side too. This biggest problem we’ve come across is that it shakes quite a lot, particularly on the highest settings. If this is problematic for you, you may need to find a way to keep it steady using sand bags or something similar.

GeekAire Rechargeable Floor Fan

  • Quiet
  • Powerful
  • Battery operated
  • Battery is not detacheable

Due to the rechargeable battery, the GeekAire floor fan is a great option for camping or any other time you will be using it away from a mains source. The powerful 15600mAh battery means the fan itself is strong and can run for between 3 and 24 hours, depending on the speed setting you select. Even on the highest settings, the GeekAire fan is fairly quiet.

The biggest problem we have come across with the GeekAire fan is that the battery is not removable. This means you can’t keep a spare with you as a backup for longer trips. And if you will be using it on the highest setting for long periods, the battery will drain fairly quickly. It can only be charged with an AC adaptor, but you can purchase adaptors like this one which allow you to charge it from your car.
